For all that are Welsh, March the first is a special day in Wales known as St David's day (Dewi Sant).
The emblems of Wales are the daffodil and the leek. Wales is known for its green grass, due to its plentiful rain! its welsh choirs, its valleys and the lyrical voice of the people who live there..

Here is a poem and a little about my thoughts on St David's day

St David's day poem...

Bora Da ( good day) I wrote a little poem to commemorate St David's day and to express my thoughts..

Tis March the first my pretty young wench,
When a Welshman will sing his song.
He will sing to thee with notes of love,
That will last the whole day long.

Knowest thou? one Dewi Sant from Wales,
St David, if thee is not from there,
At his feet one day, a hill did rise,
Such a miracle for us all to share.

A daffodil worn upon this day,
Shows thy love for this greenest of lands.
From mount Snowdon far up there in the north,
To the south and its Tenby sands.

Our Dewi Sant one time did say,
To his soldiers long ago,
Attach a leek there on your your cap,
It will show your friend from foe.

Tis not so easy now, my dear love,
To know thy foe from thy friend.
So wear a smile upon thy lips,
And all will love thee till the end...

The Daffodil..emblem of Wales

The daffodils by the edge of the brook at the village where I live. They have a special significance for me and that is why I walked down there one sunny day in March to capture this picture with my camera...it always reminds me of William Wordsworth's "Daffodils" poem

Daffodils by William Wordsworth (1770-1850)

This is one of my all time favourite poems written by William Wordsworth ...entitled daffodils written in 1804:-

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee;
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company!
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

I enjoyed this on several levels. To me, daffodils bring back the memory of my daughter when she was little, sitting in a patch of daffodils, picking me a bouquet, her blond curls looking as though they were a part of the flower patch :) The welsh cakes, my grandmother used to make them, with currents if she could find them, raisins if she couldn't. She lived in Canada and would fix Welsh cakes and rice pudding whenever she came to visit. She was born and raised in Scotland and my mother and I made a trip there about 8 years ago before she passed away and I regret that we did not get to Wales. Maybe someday I will return with my daughter and visit your beautiful country :)
