Inbound links are a big part of the SEO industry – but not all inbound links are created equal as you probably already know. Here is one big factor to consider when creating these inbound links.

The perfect link?

Links are everywhere and is an important factor (among others) in achieving that magical #1 PR on Google or other search engines. But there is one thing that you need to know before you create these, by following what I’m about to tell you, you can make those links mean much more than some others!
Is the inbound links you are creating for you’re website and/or blog NoFollow or DoFollow links?

What is NoFollow & DoFollow sites?

First lets have a look at what NoFollow an DoFollow exactly is. A website choosing the NoFollow action basically tells search engines not to place any credibility on that link, in turn that link won’t have an effect on the page rank of your website. Thus compared to DoFollow links is way less important and as effective.
No why would sites resort to something like this? Well one obvious reason is to curb the huge spamming problem on so many sites. Comment spamming in order for better rankings. With that in place those links are not that important anymore!

A bit of both

Don’t stop getting NoFollow links as those are still important. They are still “picked-up” but you might not get the same credibility for them that you would at another place. Some say Google still regard NoFollow links in some way, but the greater majority agree that they are way less effective. One thing you will certainly gain with NoFollow links is exposure and building an online presence in this ever increasing competitive place we call the world wide web. A great tip that you can try is to get about 50% of each if possible.

So the next time when creating that all too valuable inbound links for your website, just consider how effective they really are! In doing so you will get far more effective results and actually not waste your time and money.

Now the big question is, how do you know which sites are using NoFollow? For a great little trick to figure this out have a look at this article over at my blog - Easily find DoFollow sites.
