My favorite Christmas baking: Spritz Hazelnut cookies: A great Christmas tradition

Another one of the cookies I make that my sister adores and says she won't visit me on Christmas if I don't make these cookies! So as usual I make them each year

Spritz hazelnut cookies Ingredients


  • 3 sticks softened unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup hazelnuts toasted 1-7 minutes or until they start to have an aroma in a 350-degree oven chopped

  • Also other things that will be required to make these cookies that are a cookie press with decorative disks

  • Turn on the oven and heat to 350 degrees

  • 1/4 cup flour and nuts once they cooled should be put together in food processor until finely ground.

  • The nut mixture, baking powder, salt and the rest of the flour.

  • These should be whisked in a bowl until mixed.

    Reduce the electric mixer to the low speed. When the mixer is on low speed, it should be beaten until a dough that is soft forms. These particular cookies should NOT be chilled

  • The cookie press should have instructions by the manufacturer so use those directions to tell how to get the cookie dough goes into the cookie press and comes out.

  • Then the cookies should be pressed out of the cookie press onto the ungreased cookie sheets with the cookies being put 1 inch apart from each other on baking sheets that are ungreased.

  • The cookies can be made into different shapes using different disks.

  • After the cookies are n the baking sheet, and before the cookies are put in the oven they should have sugar and nonpareils sprinkled on the cookies.

  • Until the cookies are golden on the edges these cookies should be baked for 10-12 minutes.

    Then after they are baked and have golden edges do not immediately.take off the baking sheet. Let them stay on the baking sheets on the wire racks where they should cool a little bit.

  • After they are cooled a bit they should be taken off the baking sheet and to allow the cookies to cool entirely put the cookies on the rack.

  • These cookies stay safe up to three weeks in layers that are separated by wax paper in an airtight container. The room temperature should be cold. Or if you prefer to freeze them they can stay in the freezer up to three months.
