The normally boring New Jersey Devils were the exact opposite as the Ilya Kovalchuck contract fiasco played out over the summer. Will they also bring some of that summer excitement to the regular season for a change? With a new coach and promised new philosophy, here is a look at the hockey pool predictions for the Devils this season.

New Jersey Devils Hockey Pool Predictions and Sleepers for 2010/2011

The New Jersey Devils could be a team that challenges for the Eastern Conference title. They have a deep, defensive blue line and 2 scary offensive lines that are also responsible defensively. Couple this with what is being promised as being a new offensive approach, and the Devils could be an entertaining team to watch this year.

Blue Chip Players

Zach Parise- Great player who tends to be a bit underrated due to the market that he plays in. When you take into account his past few years, Parise deserves to at least be in the discussion as to being one of the top 10 players in the league. He's been better than a point a game player over the last 2 seasons on a highly defensive team. With this year's slight change in coaching philosophy, expect a bit year.
Ilya Kovalchuk- Despite the contract issues this summer, Kovalchuk is the real deal. He's a proven sniper and point producer who's in his peak years. 100 points could be a real possibility, especially as he will have ample time to acclimatize to his new team.

The defence is primarily a collection of defensive defensemen. There are no blue chippers to be found here.
Martin Brodeur- What is there to say about this sure fire hall of famer, except that he will both start and win a lot of games yet again this year. He should be at or near the top of your goaltender list, despite his advanced age.

Second Tier

Jason Arnott- 35 year old Jason Arnott has been a productive center at virtually every stop in his NHL career. The issue with him has been injuries. Unfortunately he may be one hit to the head away from retirement. Hopefully that doesn't happen this year, because he is a very good point producing center who if healthy could put up 70+ points this year.
Patrick Ellias- Ellias was once magical with Arnott as his center. Can he rekindle that success with him this year? Despite missing time due to injury, he had a ppg of 0.83 last year. With a better center in the form of Arnott this season, I'm betting that yes, he can. This may be a return to the 80 point plateau for Ellias, despite the fact that he is now 34 years old.
Travis Zajak- Zajack is pretty much a package deal with Parise. Expect a lot of powerplay time, and a slight bump in points this year as he could flirt with the 75 point level due to a greater team focus on offense.

Not many offensive gems in the organization as of yet.

Don't Over Rate

Brian Rolston- Rolston has a howitzer of a shot and good wheels, however, the hot rumour out of New Jersey is that he's on his way out due to salary cap issues. Lou Lamourello could even park him in the minors as he did Mogilny a few years back.
Danius Zubrus- Zubrus never really did live up to his offensive potential, and now that he's in the twilight of his career, don't expect a miracle.

Potential Sleepers and Late Round Steals

Jamie Langenbrunner- Langenbrunner is perpetually overlooked in most pools, despite that fact that he is a reliable 60 point player. He is showing no signs of slowing down with age and should benefit by the new offensive approach in Jersey.
Andy Greene- Greene will be giving every opportunity to play an offensive role this season. Last year he was good for 37 points. This year it could be for as many as 50.

None of note. The Devils gave up most of their prospects in the Kovalchuck trade. I would avoid trying to find a diamond in the rough when looking at the Devils' roster.
