Patrick's Roadhouse: Haunted Diner, Iconic Landmark & Quirky Celebrity Hangout

If you enjoy a good meal then Patrick's Roadhouse is the place to go if you so happen to be in Santa Monica, California. Complaints about the food are rare, but if you do by chance find fault with the cuisine then you better keep it to yourself or else Bill Fischler, the restaurant's snarky ghost and former owner. This is one ghost that doesn't hold back and in fact he is so protective over the roadhouse that he is known for giving public demonstrations of his dissatisfaction by appearing in the restaurant with a most displeased look on his face when customers are anything but satisfied with the food that even the celebrities are known to love.

Established in 1973, Patrick's Roadhouse, named after Bill Fischler's youngest son Patrick, has been many things to many people over the years, but the bright green St. Patrick's Day themed exterior, the quirky antiqued-knickknack style interior, celebrity sightings, paranormal activity, and over-stuffed omelets are today what draw's fans in to check out some of the roadhouse's most famous attributes. Fans of the bright green diner include housewives, President Clinton and Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise, Sylvester Stallone, Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Sean Penn, Tom Hanks, Kurt Russell and Arnold Schwarzenegger who consider the joint the best kept 40 year secret that has become anything but under wraps over the years due to critical acclaim. The iconic landmark is known for serving large portions of delicious food and it is a well known hot spot for celebrities and ghosts to hangout.

Patrick's Roadhouse has been everything from a red car trolley station to a brothel, a motel and was once known for being a hot dog stand. Nestled next to the ocean in the Santa Monica canyon just above the Pacific Coast Highway, the eccentric diner sits at a location that offers a perfect view of the beach. Patrick's Roadhouse has carried with it the rumor that it is haunted, not only by the diner's former owner, but possibly from the ghostly shipmates who perished along with their sunken ships and wandered onshore for some edible grub.

The historical vibe is inviting and the popularity of a few of the dishes highlighted are hard to ignore, especially ones like the Governator's Special Breakfast that features Arnold Schwarzenegger's mother's secret recipe. The terminator's menu entrée came to the attention of celebrity chef, Guy Fieri who dropped in on the greasy spoon to see what all of the ruckus was about. What he discovered was huge portions and off-the-hook- blue plate specials at the funky hangout where the stars can get breakfast from early morning until late at night.

Good food is a wonderful attribute for any diner to possess, but ghosts are even a greater one because they tend to draw various crowds of curious social groups. One of these groups included the founders of GHOULA, the Ghost Hunters of Urban Los Angeles to check out the many reports of ghost sightings at the roadhouse. The investigators arrived armed with K-II meters, video equipment and electronic voice phenomenon. The paranormal team investigated Patrick's Roadhouse on the 13th of September in 2009 with positive results. They believe that the ghost of Bill Fischler watches over the place, making sure that patrons receive good food and quality service with a bit of paranormal ambiance to set the tone of a rich history that California is so well known for.

Patrick's Roadhouse & Celebrities: Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey can't resist the banana cream pie, and the stars of Baywatch were once morning regulars at the diner where their day began with a morning fix of coffee and breakfast before filming the popular show just across the street on the beach. Sean Penn relaxes on the front patio while enjoying his breakfast while Arnold prefers his meal in the dining room where he has a permanent table. The Terminator typically orders up a huge plate of Bauernfraustuck, his favorite Austrian breakfast dish, known more commonly as potatoes, eggs, sausage and peppers.
