The most terrifying legend told by the town's people is that Satan holds court with his worshipers on the Stull Cemetery grounds, making it prime for supernatural occurrences to wreak havoc on the unsuspecting that trespass on the Devil's playground.

Stull Cemetery, the Devil's Playground

Not many things are more terrifying than steps that descend into the deepest layers of hell. Scarier still is that there is a place on earth that just happens to be rumored to be equipped with this outrageously wicked supernatural situation. The Stull Cemetery, located at the top of Emmanuel Hill in the unincorporated community of north eastern Kansas in the town with the same name could quite possibly hold the key to the seven gates of hell if you are venturesome enough to look for the hidden seal that keeps hell's steps protected until the eve of the vernal equinox and later in the year on All Hallows' Eve. If you are unfortunate enough to locate the steps providing the direction to the gates of hell, if you so much as tempt fate by following their path into Satan's den, your chances of escaping the diabolical escapade is about zero to none. Despite the odds of surviving the Devil's summons, the dark tale brings hundreds of people each year to Stull's Cemetery in preparation for the Devil's arrival on earth, making it a case of the monster in the closet even being afraid of things we fear the most.

The Stull church yard has led the path to many horrific events since the mid 1800s that have stemmed from rumors of the occult. The cemeteries tallest pine tree was removed after it was believed to be the landmark of evil that would lead you straight to the hidden steps of hell. The gloomy tree appeared to have hands reaching for whoever passed by it, enveloped the cemetery and somehow managed to bust through a headstone, splitting it completely in half. The most terrifying legend told by the town's people is that Satan holds court with his worshipers on the cemetery grounds, making it prime for supernatural occurrences to wreak havoc on the unsuspecting that trespass on the Devil's playground. Several incidences have deeply affected the tiny town, starting with a farmer doing the tedious chore of burning his fields only to discover the gruesome charred remains of his son after the combustible residue was looked at thoroughly upon the discovery that his son was nowhere to be found.

An old map of Stull, Kansas shows the cursed Devil's Road, which has since been renamed, and was the location of a tree where a local was found hanging during the 1900s. The Stull Cemetery has no shortage of paranormal events starting with a witches black mass held on the eve of Walpurgis, foul odors reminiscent of sulfur, dark shadows, the feeling of being touched, orbs, disembodied voices, footsteps, thick fog, heavy air, full-bodied apparitions, and unexplained noises that chill you to the bone. The abandoned church has long since been torn down, but the remaining centuries old cemetery has a feel to it that is so unholy that it is rumored that in the 1970s, Pope John Paul II asked his pilot to reroute his airplane as to avoid flying over eastern Kansas during a planned appearance in Illinois and Iowa.
