In the olden days, photography was black and white. Then it turned color, and with that a big step forward was made. The next step was the digital camera, which would replace film based photography. The digital era had arrived.

Photography in the Digital Age

Needless to say, digital photography gives numerous advantages over film based. For starters, you can instantly see photo output on the camera display, and if you are not happy simply delete it and take the photo again. With film, only when it was developed could you get to the output. In addition, if the photo was not ideal then it would end up in the bin. There was no way to judge the overall photo before developing.

At any rate, further to being able to see output on the camera display you can actually edit the photo on the camera itself or better still, on computer. Truly, digital photos can be transferred to computer image editing software, and stored on hard drive. Here, they can be edited in such areas as contrast, sharpness, hue and saturation, as well as composition with cropping techniques. Likewise, it is possible to add special effects, like bulges, blurring, tiling, or paint effects to your photo. Digital editing software has a variety of options, to change a photo considerably from the original.

In addition, when you are satisfied with the output, after tweaking with digital editing both with the camera and software provided, you can get a photo developed. It need not just be a standard photo, for now digital photos can be put on cups or mugs, shirts etc.

Alternatively, some might be satisfied with simply leaving the output on computer. Picasa has presentation facilities, and it can present photos as sideshows with subtitles. Or, you could make use of web albums, which will allow photo uploads for display. There is some choice here, for photographers, which were not possible with film.
