Procrastination is the thief of time. Make plans for vacations and leisure time so that you know what to do and when you have to do them. In this series of articles, you will see how many different activities there are. This will help you make an informed decision about what to do and make your plans more effective and efficient.

Reassign activity to time according to your liking

Vacation and leisure time activity begins with you…or a plan. Here are the first few steps that will help you on your way.
a) Passive activity during leisure
1) Taking lots of rest: This tops my list of leisure time activities with sleep adding the punch. Older people tire easily because their metabolism does not have the capability to synthesize all the necessary enzymes required by the human body. If you have a tree in your garden, just hang out a hammock and let the birds sing for you.
2) Supervising the garden: If you have enough zest for higher things, you should try planting, weeding and watering activity in your garden. It may be tough to start because a garden needs to be organized first. You can make a kitchen garden with vegetables and fruits like kale, broccoli, papaya, banana, tomato, egg plants, beans and flowers like lavender, jasmine and rose. If you face space restrictions as with people living in apartments, a roof top garden for vegetables and flowers will be ideal.
3) Games: Online multiplayer games are fast catching fire among all people young and old. These are games are categorized into sections like Free to Play, First Person Shooter games, arcade games, racing games, fighting games, games for girls, puzzles, board games, card games, fantasy and word games among others. Most games are free but paid games have more variety and offer more fun options.

b) Outdoor activity

1) Family vacation: Make a list of places to visit with family on your vacation. Here are some of the renowned tourist spots in India and also those worldwide.
i. India
1. Taj Mahal: Symbolic of love, this historic masterpiece in marble was opened for public viewing in 1648. It represents Mughal art at its best and houses the tombs of Shah Jahan, his wife Mumtaj Mahal and several dignitaries of that time including P.N. Oak.
2. Red fort: Another UNESCO World Heritage site, this fort remained the official residence for Mughal emperors down the ages up till 1857.
3. Roh tang pass: translates into “heap of dead bodies” as an allusion to the multitude of lives lost in the region. It is a wonderful tourist spot for a family vacation with lovely snowy peaks and decent ski slopes.
4. Dal Lake: The landmark of Kashmir, this scenic spot has played host for many movies shootings and tourists over the ages. It has Mughal gardens dating back to Jehangir’s time. The houseboats and shikaras add to the allure of the place.
5. Valley of Flowers: Located in Uttaranchal, Uttarakhand on the upper regions of Himalayas, the Valley of Flowers provides lovers of nature and botanists a lovely encounter with the natural splendor of flowers and nature.
6. Varanasi Ghats: Most sacred for the Hindus, this place represents the crux of devotion in India. Being one of the oldest in civilizations, the prayer and chants of the priests of Hindu culture is said to bring peace and harmony to the visitors.
ii. International exciting tourist destination
1. Grand Bazaar, Istanbul: This place has visitors in excess of 91,357, 000 every year. Jewelry byzantine-type, lanterns, ceramics and patterned carpets adorn this place. Shoppers find exquisite pieces to take home.
2. Times Square, New York City: This place attracts around 45, 000, 000 visitors every year. Megastores and Broadway shows are the main attractions.
3. Las Vegas strip: This place finds more than 29,303,100 visitors on an annual basis. Shop and gamble and watch Bellagio fountains provide some exciting movements. Of late, the Ferris wheel, 550 feet tall is making the scene with action hungry tourists.

Leisure activity or pastime planner

Next among the vacation and leisure time activity plans are things you can sit at home and do. One that I enjoy very much is learning new recipes. Chinese, Continental, Asian or Arabic cuisines mingle to help the gastronome discover new worlds in taste. Or the intellect spends time learning new things and the writer learns new techniques in article writing.
1) Spruce up your meals: Check online cooking sites or watch television shows to learn new cooking methods. The idea is to include new ingredients such as mushrooms in Chinese cooking or curry powder in Indian or Asian recipes. However, to make the dish taste good, the chef will need to practice until he or she gets the combination right.
2) Learn languages: For people with an intellectual bend, there is nothing more pleasant than learning a new language. Many online foreign languages sites exist. One can also learn a foreign language by purchasing books that teach a novice how to speak a new language.
3) Make articles better: For the writer and author, it is time well spent learning about search engines, optimization and content creation. Writing articles or blogging, the writer needs writing tools like spell checker and grammar analysis tools. These are freely available online.
c) Remake schedules for better utilization
1) Daily planner: Begin each day with some new thought or idea. Or take an old one and work on it, give it some polish and use it. Have a scheduler or an online organizer to help with your planning work.
2) Take time off: Like already mentioned, remember to give yourself some time for your own. This short break in the midst of a busy schedule helps you clear your mind and thoughts and work with a clear brain.
3) Allot more time for progressive activity: Now this is something we all want to do but we give it up for something else less useful. Like walking – if we set aside some time for that activity, we should go through with it. If we decide to substitute it for some other activity that is not so productive like reading a magazine, we tend to lose out.

Make plans and enjoy your leisure and vacations

That finishes this round of spending leisure time usefully. This also serves as a vacation planner for those who are short on ideas. Family vacations need planning and so does your leisure. Take photos and share them with your friends and colleagues. If you like photography very much you can find some online site like Flickr or use Picasa online albums to make your hobby worthwhile. Hope you all enjoyed reading this first article in a series about vacation and leisure time activity planning.

Modern technology has made us home bound. Children are addicted to video games. The urge to be in the loop of what is happening is overwhelming.

Thanks Snerfu for highlighting the possibilities and what we miss out when we are too glued to the various screens - big and small - siva

Every event turns to keep account of the give and take. Politicians come and go but the nations need honest people with proven track records.
I think it is time for change -- keep your papers ready.

Snerfu, thank you for sharing such a great article. I loved the pictures. I've been to vegas and I love it. It's almost time to plant our garden. It's finally warmed up here. It's always fun for me when I can watch my herbs grow.

Nancy, you surprise me! I know you like gardening but I find it difficult to think of you tenderly pruning your herbs.
And you must write about your Vegas experience. All of use would love to hear about it. I hope everything is okay on the book publishing front.

Snerfu, I just went and got some new herbs this morning. I got a beautiful basil plantand flat leaf parsley. I already have rosemary. I'm so excited because I love cooking with herbs. Maybe some day I will write about vegas. It was awesome there. We went in July and it was really hot but I still loved it. My book is so time consuming. I have to go back now and edit some things and add a little more. I will be glad when it is done. Thank you for asking.
