Roast Turkey Recipe, perfect for Thanksgiving Dinner

Roast Turkey

Prep: 15 minutes
Stand: 15 minutes
Roast: 2 3/4 hours
Makes: 12-14 servings
Oven: 325 degrees F

The best and safest method to thaw the turkey is to leave it in a refrigerator until completely thawed. This is the best method because other methods may increase the risk of bacteria growth.

1. The first step is to rinse the complete inside cavity of the turkey. Once rinsed pat the inside completely dry with a paper towel. You may salt the inside cavity afterwards. Next spoon the stuffing. Tie the drum sticks to the tail. Twist the tips of the wings to the back of the turkey.

2. Next place the turkey on a shallow roasting pan with the breast sticking upward. Brush the turkey with some oil. If you want, you may insert a thermometer inside the center of the inside thigh muscle. If you do insert a thermometer, make sure that the tip of the thermometer doesn't touch the bone. Cover the turkey with foil.

3. Set the oven to 325 degrees F. Roast the turkey for 2 1/4 to 3 hours. During the last 45 minutes of roasting, remove the foil. Cut the tie off of the drumsticks so that the thighs will cook evenly. Continue to roast the turkey until the internal temperature reaches 180 degrees F. If you are using stuffing, then the center of the stuffing should be at 165 degrees F. Also the juices should be clean and the drumsticks should move loosely inside there sockets.

4. Remove the turkey from the oven and let stand for 15 - 20 minutes before you start to carve.
