While selecting blinds for our house, we have to consider a number of things. This article talks about Roman and Roller blinds. Take your pick.

Something About Window Blinds

As the myth goes, Roman blinds were probably invented in ancient Rome; though there is a popular belief that they have their origin in the Mediterranean. However, it is during the Victorian period that they became really popular due to the neo-classical tastes of that era. Even today, these blinds are immensely popular among homes that prefer aesthetic and artistic appeal. Another style that cropped up and has remained equally in demand is the roller where the windows can be rolled up or down according to the need. So, for a person renovating windows or buying a new house, which of these is a better option? The answer depends upon the requirements of the house. Let us have a look:

The Utility:

People buy blinds keeping utility in mind, and the style follows suit. And one of the main functionalities of a blind is to stop the inflow of sunlight. While choosing a blind, decide what amount of sunlight seeping in are you okay with. This sunlight can come in through the fabric or also from the sides or the top of the blind. If you think that a moderate amount of sunlight entering is not an issue with you, choose the Roman curtains. But, if it is the close to darkness kind of look you prefer once the blinds are down, go for roller blinds.

The View:

Apart from the utility, the view is another big deciding factor. Many people are not bothered about a part of their view being cut off with the hanging Roman curtains because it is mainly the seeping of light they care about. However, if you are the other kind and look forward to the lovely view from your window each morning, going for the roller curtains would be a better idea as they are compact, consume less space, and can be rolled all the way up.

The Maintenance:

A big thing to consider while talking of maintenance of blinds is where they are going to be put up. For example, if the blinds are being put up in the living room; then the aesthetics and warm colors are the primary concern. However, for a kitchen blind, it would be preferable to have dark colors, wipeable, and water resistant material. So, while one could think of roman curtains in the first scenario; the second case would perform better if the blinds were roller, and preferably PVC. PVC blinds satisfy all the requirements and are the perfect solution as kitchen window curtains.

Conclusion!

While the above can help an individual decide the kind of blinds required for his home; it is also crucial to keep the overall décor of the house into consideration. The roman ones give a flourishing look to the house and made with luxurious fabric, they are ideal with soft furnishings; whereas the roller blinds create a minimalistic look and have a style statement of their own. Thus, the choice depends upon the user and the kind of look one is trying to establish for the house.

Will stick with Lace curtains although Blinds may add to the privacy, I am not very fond of them.
