Grocery shopping

Grocery shopping can quickly add up to hundreds of dollars. There are several ways you can save money when grocery shopping. There are several ways you can get better at reducing the bill when you purchase groceries.

Store brands

One of the easiest things to start with is purchase store brands instead of name brands. When shopping take a look at each item you are purchasing to see what items are offered as a store brand. When trying it for the first time, purchase one item to see how it compares. If you are satisfied with the store brand you can save hundreds of dollars each year by making these purchases.

Coupons are in your Sunday paper and available online. When clipping coupons the most important aspect of saving money is to use the coupons of items that you will normally buy. If you start purchasing items just because you have a coupon, this will defeat the purpose of using coupons. Check out not only the paper, but several websites such as

Create a list

When you grocery shop make a list of the items you need. When you go shopping stick strictly to the grocery list you created. Many times when shopping it is easy to make impulse purchases of things you see while walking down the grocery store aisles. These small purchases will add up each time you go shopping making your grocery bill larger than you originally intended.

Check the prices

When shopping for certain items check the price per unit. If you look under the item you are buying it will show you the price per unit. For example if you are purchasing cereal there are several different size boxes. Looking at the boxes and prices you can see what the best savings is. Checking the price per unit you may find that the smaller box will save you more money than the larger box.

Buy in bulk

There are many warehouse stores that you can purchase items in bulk and have quite a bit of savings. This area you do need to do your research and make sure that you are indeed saving money. If you have the room to store bulk items this can help you save a great deal of money.

Saving money at the grocery stores can be very easy if you take your time to research which stores are having sales, use coupons and stick to your grocery list. Take your time and watch your grocery bill go down each week.

Great job Kirsten. I have been a excellent shopper for my family for decades. Now that my hubby is older, we now shop on wednesday for the senior citizen discount.
Every little bit helps.
Thank you for sharing.:)
