Whether majestic black male or cute tabby kitten, these animals fascinate thousands of people around the world. But taking care of a cat isn’t as easy as it seems. If you are debating whether to get one or not, read this article to find out if you have what it takes!

Cats as Pets

The most important thing for any cat is space. Of course, many people keep them in apartments, but it is preferable to at least have a small garden for them to play in and get the freedom they need. The best location is a town where there is little traffic, a lot of nature and some other cats. However, enough space inside a house or apartment and the aforesaid small garden should be enough, provided that the animal is not alone for lengthy amounts of time. Either a feline companion or the frequent company of humans is important for a cat that is not free to roam about.

However, space and company alone does not make a happy cat. Another big factor is nutrition. Even if you can obtain your animal for free, bear in mind that cat food can be very expensive, depending on the region you live in. Besides, the cheapest food may not be the best for your animal. If you’re not sure what food formula to get, ask your local vet. You should visit him once in a while to make sure your cat is healthy and to keep track of vaccinations it might need. Additionally, you must provide a litter box if you are planning on keeping your cat inside, which has to be emptied regularly, and your pet must have a suitable place to sleep. So, all in all, it will add up, both financially and time-wise.

In conclusion to this short guide, keeping a cat is a wonderful and enriching experience and brings many benefits. However, the animal must also be taken care of properly. Their life expectancy is around 12 years, yet some individuals have been known to live to 20! So, before getting one, make sure you have enough information and meet all the necessary requirements to be a responsible owner to your new pet.
