For those considering designing a website, there are a few potential software packages that will and may be required. Website design software, or websites builder, will provide a number of options for the design of websites. Additional software may also be needed to assist with the uploading. Some of the following software for building websites may be required.

HTML editor

An HTML editor is a particular type of website design software. The HTML editor refers more specially to text-based editors whereby HTML tags and coding is entered to design the website. For this, the HTML editor will include a number of HTML option and short-cuts that can be added to the HTML coding. As such, the HTML editor is most suitable for those that prefer to enter their own HTML and other website related coding such as Java in order to design a website. A good example of HTML editor includes the Coffee Cup editor which has HTML 5 and CSS3 support.

WYSIWYG editor

The WYSIWYG website design software is an alternative to the HTML editor. Unlike the HTML editor it does not necessarily require HTML coding to be entered to design the website. Instead, this type of website design software has a number of Web templates and design templates for websites and many design options. Good examples of WYSIWYG website design software includes the likes of Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, which has a variety of Web templates and is considered one of the top websites builder.

Flash animation software

While good website design software may include options for animations, these can still be quite limited. As such, flash animation software can provide more advanced animation software and options for animation and video. With such software you can enhance websites with superior effects and animations. Recommended flash animation software includes the likes of Adobe Flash Professional which is part of the Adobe suite of web-design software.

FTP software

FTP stands for file transfer protocol required for uploading websites. Again, FTP options may be something included with some website design software packages. However, not all may include this option. As such, if this is not the case then more specific FTP client software packages will have a number of FTP options.

Overall, at least some of this software will be required to design a website. One good website design software package may be suitable. Alternatively, web-design suites such as the Adobe Creative Suite or Microsoft Expression will include a variety of website design software packages for graphics, animations, etc.
