Sometimes Ok is Good Enough

Now and then we need to lower the standards we set for ourselves. It doesn't have to be 100% all the time.

Coincidence Leads to Challenge

As entrepreneurs, we are often concerned with perfection. Everything, absolutely everything should be perfect before we dare believe that it is good enough. It applies not only to the goods or services we provide, preferably we should be perfect ourselves in most areas.

A short time ago I met a nice young lady while I was out shooting with my camera. I was working with a few sheep that were crammed together under a tree seeking shelter from the rain. The woman and her dog were just observing. The woman turned around and asked me what I was going to do with the photos I took. I told her that I didn’t have any specific plans for the images, but that I was a photo artist and would figure something out later. She then told me that she worked for the local TV channel and that they had a series about culture and art in the county. Would I be interested in a TV presentation about me and my work?

Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone

On television? Me? NO WAY! I knew this could be great marketing and a way to get some attention and exposure for my work. This was an opportunity I should say yes to! At the same time I knew it would be out of my comfort zone, WAY out of my comfort zone. I like to stay BEHIND the camera, not in front of it!

I promised nothing, but memorized her e-mail address. She sounded convincing when she said she had interviewed nervous people before and that I’d be okay.
I pondered the challenge for a while wondering where I could dig up the guts to join, and after a few weeks reason prevailed, or maybe my mind was paralyzed for a second. I sent an e-mail telling the reporter that I was in.

The interview is now over and done with, recordings were made, and I have seen the result on TV. It is what it is, and I choose to believe that it is good enough!

Believe in Yourself!

We need to lower our shoulders sometimes and trust that what we do is good enough. Nobody sets higher standards for ourselves than we do, we who are trying to create something to please others as well as ourselves. The requirements are often too high and make us doubt ourselves so much that we don’t even dare to try. It's better to try and maybe risk a score of 80 percent rather than not trying and end up with a failing grade in both courage and willingness to take risks.

Take some chances!

Photos are my own.
