Some of the strange customs, still practiced by people in many countries in spite of the advancement of civilization, is very interesting to know about.

Some of the customs followed around the Globe.

In Korea, a woman cannot get a husband because she had been born in the year of the Horse, inauspicious for the girls.

The Soliga tribe of Tamil Nadu considers that number twelve has a mysterious hold on their life. When a Soliga marries, twelve relatives of the bride groom brings the bride from her house to the marriage pandal built of twelve bamboos. Number twelve is associated with their various activities.

In Lapland (Northern Europe) the hat is designed to keep one’s ears and the crown of the head protected from the piercing cold Arctic winds but also to be used as a seat!

The Dutch in the Netherlands in western Europe have a custom of wearing 4-5 or 6 hats at a time. But the people of Tonga in the Pacific Ocean are not seen wearing a hat at any time for fear of displeasing their GOD, lurking nearby. They believe that they can protect themselves from god’s anger by not wearing a hat at anytime.

In New Guinea and Africa, it is a strange custom among men to hold out their babies to the new moon. They hope that the babies may grow hale and healthy with strong and straight bodies.

There are lots of customs like this in India. They practice it with tribe endogamy and clan exogamy and they are all related to various totomic beliefs that exist. This does mean that every person in the tribe is somewhat related to the other person is some way or the other.
