All of us have sense organs which help us in fulfilling our daily needs.Other than the 5 sense organs,we have Brain which gives the necessary information and memory to store the information recorded by the senses.
What if the same senses play their roles in a different manner ? Lets discuss this.

The Sense Organs

First let us be clear about the sense organs. Why are some organs called as Sense Organs?
SENSE ORGAN : A specialized organ or structure, such as the eye, ear, tongue, nose, or skin, where sensory neurons are concentrated and that functions as a receptor. Also called sensor.

SENSE ORGANS WE HAVE : Eyes,Ears,Nose,Tongue,Skin.
In animals, an organ or part that is sensitive to a stimulus, as of sound, touch, or light.
Some animals may have powerful senses. These senses are termed as SUPER SENSES.
Take for instance the chameleon which can change its skin color or the eagle which has got powerful eyesight.
All these are quite natural as they do occur in all the animals of that particular species.

But what if a person is able to see, smell or hear colors which are not visible to him? What if a person is able to read a book with his eyes closed ?
These are synesthetes and they have extraordinary talents which we can find very rarely.

The synesthetes

It is a neurological phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. People who report such experiences are known as synesthetes.

Some synesthetes often report that they were unaware that their experiences were unusual until they realized other people did not have them. The automatic and ineffable nature of a synesthetic experience means that the pairing may not seem out of the ordinary.
This involuntary and consistent nature helps define synesthesia as a real experience. Most synesthetes report that their experiences are pleasant or neutral, although, in rare cases, synesthetes report that their experiences can lead to a degree of sensory overload.

Enjoy the video

Here is a link which is providing a video of a girl who was blind folded and was asked to tell the colors of the dresses worn by people around her.
Surprisingly, the girl could not only tell the colors but also read the captions which were written on their shirts. This was purely a shocking experience for the parents who first noticed that she had this ability and the girl was even more surprised as she found none of her family members had this ability.

How do you Evaluate

We often come across stories, where a sage closes his eyes to perceive something which occurred in his absence or a prince being able to imagine the color of a sound (perhaps the instrument). But we don't accept such stories to be true and call them "Fictional" and ignore them.

Though often stereotyped in the popular media as a medical condition or neurological aberration, many synesthetes themselves do not perceive their synesthetic experiences as a handicap.

To the contrary, some report it as a gift—an additional "hidden" sense—something they would not want to miss. Most synesthetes become aware of their distinctive mode of perception in their childhood. Some have learned how to apply their ability in daily life and work. Synesthetes have used their abilities in memorization of names and telephone numbers, mental arithmetic, and more complex creative activities like producing visual art, music, and theater.

I would consider it as a God's gift ! As this is an extraordinary ability of a God's creation after all. What about you ? How would you feel if this was an ability which you had ?

We hear of these special gifts or talents that few possess. Some may term them as freaks of creation!

I think this points out more to the unfathomable variety and possibilities in creation and should be used positively to benefit the creative process - siva

Everyone wants to be a superhero. If I were given magical powers to lift mountains or kill adversaries by thousands, I'd love it. But how do I get these powers? I go and watch the Marvel movies paying huge amounts just to satisfy this craving.

Yes, we keep wondering and craving for such talents. But I heard that there are academies which train children to possess those talents. Children are being trained and improving themselves, which I have known through the internet. You may go through this link as well, to know more
