Snakes are everywhere in the world. Some parts of the world have various types of snakes, some being poisonous and some not. There are a few things you should know in order to determine whether or not a snake is poisonous.

Eye Shape

The first sign that a snake is poisonous is if its eyes are shaped like a cat’s eyes. If they are shaped like cat eyes (vertical and narrow) then the snake is known to be poisonous. On the flip side, snakes with round eyes are not poisonous.

Also, another sign that a snake may be poisonous is if it has a rattle at the end of its tail. If you see the tail shake and you don’t know whether or not its’ eyes are cat shaped, avoid it just in case. However, just because its tail rattles, doesn’t mean it’s poisonous. Some snakes shake their tails to pretend to be dangerous and scare off predators. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

If the snake shows its fangs and has its mouth open, it is ready for an attack. So, a good idea would be to avoid it.

Some people say that if the head of the snake is more arrowhead shaped rather than blunt shaped, it’s venomous.

Be sure to look up dangerous snakes in your area. This is for your own benefit, especially if you live out in the country or near a patch of woods.

Follow these hints and be sure to stay a safe distance away and you should be fine. The simple way to avoid harmful snakes, is to call an exterminator and keep your distance from the snake.
