Logo design is not a simple work. This article is trying to give tips and experience to young designers on how to start unique logo design artworks. Hope they are useful for you. Any further discussions are welcomed.

Brief Introduction.

The Logo, is the first impression that your business gives to the public. A great logo should identify you and your business’goal, target, ideas, insight and taste. However, if you are a designer, even a young designer, you are suggested that not only aiming at a great logo design, but also focusing on unique and original logo designs. A unique logo design is the first and also one of the most important things you should have to do in order to lead over your rivals. Here I would like to share some ideas with you. And hope they are all useful for your design considerations.

Tip 1 ---- NEVER let a flash of inspiration pass by.

Try to draw any of ideas down with pencil as much as you can. Please note that you’d better draw black-and-while logos as drafts at the beginning. It is a practical way for you to distinguish which design is better.

Tip 2 ---- TRY to customize symbols and shapes with original ideas.

Sometimes irregular shapes, unlike others, can lead the way in logo designs. So keeps your brain ticking over and do some changes on details. It will make your logo standing out.
Note: using Vector rather than bitmap image since bitmap is not a good choice for stretching. Jagged edges always make the logo design go down.

Tip 3 ---- NEVER use more than two font styles in one logo design.

Sometimes, more means less. More font styles existing in one design may cause chaotic problems. Too many factors cannot grab the attentions. People may not catch the focus of your design. So if not necessary, please use just one or two font styles in your logo. Actually, most of logo designs are combination logos, which include symbol and logo text together. In the case, we only need one type of font style for matching.

Tip 4 ---- TRY to streamline the logo and focus on your ideas.

Simple logos are usually more memorable than others. Do not let your logo get too complicated, only if you are confident that you can control the complex huge designs.

Tip 5 ---- NEVER use more than three colors in one logo design.

If you are not willing to design multi-color or rainbow logos, do not use three colors in one logo. It only made your logo flowery but not beautiful.

Tip 6 ---- TRY to give one or two effects to polish your logo.

There are some long-standing effects that most designers often used. For example, you can use shadow, reflection, glow, and gradient. Try to use them flexibly, but not frequently. Please note again, less is more and less is better.

Tip 7 ---- NEVER go blindly during your design process.

If you work for your own, try to absorb the views of others, such as your clients’ business concepts, non-designers’ impressions and so on. If you are in a team, do not forget discussing with your team workers. Great logo designs are always formed after been repeatedly revised, adjusted and burnished. But therefore do not limit your imagination by them.

Tip 8 ---- TRY to appreciate many great logo artworks.

Learn and get inspired from other designers’ logo artworks. Try to find out the ingenious creations and also the shortcomings of their work. But don’t copy them. Please refer to the next tip.

Tip 9 ---- NEVER follow other designs or ideas.

Unique logo design concept is always driven by the different business locations, objectives and also your client’s ambitions. If follow other’s design, you will get nothing but just the accusation of plagiarism.

Tip 10 ---- TRY to consider the quality results for different outputs.

Most of the time, one logo design will be used for different practical requirements, such as for the web and for the print (like on business card, letterhead, brochure, invitation letter and even hat). Please make sure your design will get good quality in all cases before give them to your client.

At The End.

In fact, what I want to leave in the end is that, a unique logo design is always coincident with too many tips and design theories, but they are all started from “blank” without exceptions. This article is written to give you some useful experiences but not willing to define you by them. Every rule is created for breaking. Just read these tips, and then try to forget them. You are on the way of your own process to the unique logo design.
