This article explores How Muhammed Ali was destined to become one of the most iconic figures in the world.

"I am the Greatest"

A good place to start our examination of Muhammed Ali's horoscope is to delineate his rising sign. People who have Leo rising, as does Ali, are very sure of themselves and think of themselves as very special individuals. Perhaps only someone with Leo on the ascendant would go around repeatedly announcing to the world: "I am the greatest!"

Universal Popularity

Ali has Venus in Aquarius closely conjunct the seventh house cusp. The seventh house embodies, of course, the way we relate to others. With Venus situated here, he disarms and charms people with ease, and coupled with the position of the Moon also in Aquarius, he is open and friendly to everybody. Venus so closely contacting the descendant not only reveals his universal popularity, it also accounts for his good looks, as he often reminded us by remarking "what a pretty face I have."

"Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee"

Ali's prodigious skills as a boxer can be attributed to the Sun in the sixth house - the house of skill development - in the hard working sign of Capricorn, along with the Moon and Mercury in the same house in Aquarius. The Moon in this house shows a strong psychological drive and need to work assiduously, and Mercury's placement in the sixth house reveals his enormous skills with his hands. Mars in an elevated position, near the tenth house cusp, is often seen in the charts of great atheletes (Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods).

Destined for Fame

With the Sun positioned in the achievement oriented sign of Capricorn in the hard working sixth house, whlle forming a grand trine to the Saturn-Uranus conjunction in the tenth house and Neptune in the second house, Ali was destined from birth to ascend to a place of great prominence in the world. This grand trine is, from a psychological point of view, to use astrologer Noel Tyl's description "a closed circuit of self-sufficiency." The Capricorn Sun, coupled with Saturn in the tenth house, not only shows a rise to fame, but Neptune's inclusion in the configuration suggests his renown to be of mythic proportions.

"I Ain't Got Nothin Against Them Viet Cong"

Saturn in the tenth house is referred to as "the Napoleonic Saturn," because people who possess it almost universally climb to a great height of success, only to suffer a precipitous fall from their lofty perch. Ali, when he was king of the heavyweight boxing world, refused to go to Vietnam to fight, and he was summarily stripped of his crown. True to his Capricorn-Saturn configuration, however, as the war became more and more unpopular, he gained back not only the public's respect, but also became the first heavyweight champion in history to regain his crown after losing it, and when he later lost to Joe Frazier he succeeded in winning it back again.

Parkinson's Disease

With the Sun, the ruling planet of his horoscope, along with the Moon and Mercury in the sixth house of health, all opposing Pluto in the twelfth house, Ali was unfortunately also destined to have to deal with serious health problems durinng the course of his life. Mercury's rulership of the nervous system accounts for the type of affliction from which he would suffer. Despite his physical problems, Muhammed Ali maintains his healthy self-esteem and his boundless charm.
