The Powerful, Satirical Art of Pawel Kucynski

The artist, when his or her efforts work, shows us who we are. Polish satirical artist Pawel Kucynski's art accomplishes that task in ways that shake us to the core.

Pawel Kucynski

Pawel Kucynski is a 37-year-old Polish satirical artist born in Szczecn. He graduated from the Fine Arts Academy in Poznan and since 2004 has been producing fantastic, thought-provoking, even mind-boggling art. As an artist he succeeds brilliantly in making us think beyond the boundaries of our personal beliefs and opinions.

Cultural conditioning

Many of us never stop to think how we condition our children in powerful ways by even the most innocent of our actions.

Changing of the guard

When we topple despots, are they not often replaced by another just as corrupt? This certainly happened in Egypt, and it has happened in countless other places such as in Iran when we installed the Shah, and in Chile, when we overthrew Allende.

worship

This painting could be seen at more than one level. On the one hand it seems obvious the artist is making the point that in our society we worship money above all else, but he could also be suggesting that organized religion is a money-grabbing machine.

Gullibility

Most people swallow what they are spoon fed by officialdom and the media without question - "hook, line and sinker."

Utter disregard

This painting speaks to the utter disregard of the one percent for all of the rest of us, to its sense of superiority, its sense of entitlement, and its devaluation of people, who are seen as nothing more than bothersome pests, like ants.

Politicians spreading lies

We all know the story of Pinocchio, whose nose grew larger with every lie he told. This painting is a brilliant exposition of the lies that constantly emanate from Washington, D.C.

Indoctrination

Do we really educate our children, or do we far more often than not indoctrinate them? Do we force dogma upon them in the name of educating them?

Air Force One?

We have all seen countless images of the president of the United States disembarking from Air Force One on a red carpet to be met by dignitaries in some foreign land. Does this painting suggest what he often brings to those lands? Does he not often speak with a forked tongue?

Destroying cultures

When we invaded Iraq the first thing our military did was secure the Oil Ministry. The cultural and artistic treasures of Mesopotamia, the cradle of our civilization, were looted and largely destroyed. This reminds me of William Blake's prophesy for our age that he spoke almost three hundred years ago: "Art destroyed, imagination denied, war governs the nations."

Politicians speaking garbage

Any time we see a politician stand upon a podium in front of a microphone we are warned by the artist in this piece to see it for what it is: excrement.

Bad choices

It seems to me that the artist is here saying that for many people in this world, the choices they are forced to make run only from bad to worse. He could also be suggesting that short-term solutions make long-term survival an impossibility. What do you think?

Pigs at the trough

The power elites see themselves as the makers, the job creators, the creative force behind the engine of our economy, but nothing could be farther from the truth. They are the takers, as this brilliant rendition so powerfully demonstrates. Literally, they are 'pigs at the trough.'

A small sampling

The paintings here are but a tiny sampling of Kucynski's prolific work. If you simply google his name you will be taken to several sites where you can see many more of his ingenious masterpieces.

Poignant and magical that touch at the core of reality of the day. For the majority leading upright lives their position remains the same though the actors, be they be politicians or the rich, keep changing. Thanks for this thought provoking share, Steve - siva
