The Profound Concept of Time

We are given our allotted time, be it individually or collectively, as species. Our time can as well depend on us as we are masters of all we survey – when taken at the flood the sky is the limit and when the chances are spurned we perish due to our own follies and in self-created misery.

Allotted Time

We have our tenure in this world – we mostly react to circumstances and for most it is a fight for daily survival evading arrows coming their way. We do have breathing time in between to add our bit to the whole creative process, even stamp our mark. No life is wasted though some leave negative footprints due to their attitude. Humans live for nearly hundred years and still are not satisfied, never mind the old may not be wanted by a flippant newer generation. Other species know that they have to squeeze in all their efforts within limited time – no luxury of extended life with latest scientific advancement. The concept of time is fascinating as we make plans based on the many variables and the Creator did a master stroke giving each species a time frame. Einstein said “The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once”. And we have the concept of time at the back of our mind all the time, on a daily basis to planning for each stage of life. We move from stage to stage seamlessly and may not realize the passage of time unless we take a hard look at the mirror and can even be taken aback from snaps showing the ravages of time taking its toll on our physical body.

The Race of Life

When we course through life we are hardly aware that each day has an impact on our lives. Time once past never returns and we sometimes look back wistfully at the opportunities lost. We tend to hurry through childhood, or made to nowadays, but adult life has many challenges and then golden years can also prove fleeting for most as the pace of life is increasing by the day. We have to keep running to stay where we were! The stages of life pass us faster than we realize and most do not have much to show for them. The anxiety to make hay when the sun shines make us forget to live our lives, smell the roses. Life hardly gives us a second chance especially in terms of retracting our steps, mistakes.

Repeating our Follies

We are human with the frailties that go with it. We live in the past hurts, worry about the future and forget to live the present moment that is the most precious present we are given. Not only individually but as countries too, we have much useless luggage we find difficult to discard and we also make plans rather selfishly. When we try to deprive others, that take is reciprocated automatically! That has been our bane right through history. The beauty is we know the consequences but we repeat the follies! Few progress at others’ cost, deprive those who are the largehearted to accommodate the greed and they comprise the vast majority of common citizens everywhere!

Progress is Double-edged

Time never repeats and we are accountable for our actions – we can learn from observing other species how assiduously they plan their time – they have little of the luxuries that we enjoy mostly due to the efforts and sacrifices of our forefathers. What they might have achieved in their lifetime in terms of helping the larger society we don’t do in a more and more selfish world despite flashes of generosity that touch our hearts. The creative process has many actors from time to time to add their might; our time will also be called and I feel it can well end due to our folly. We are not able to cope with progress that acts as a double edged sword. The creative power can boomerang as destructive too. The passage of time is supposed to make us wise, imbued with the wisdom of passing years, but our fault lines are getting accentuated. Our beliefs profess love and compassion but the end product is hardly that. It seems the teachings hardly make an impact in our daily lives and attitude.

Our Call

The creative process is chugging along but every moment is precious – births and deaths occur all the time. The Creator believes in democracy – we elect our way, our future. He never micro manages but wipes the slate clean from time to time. The climate is renewed every year giving us a clean slate with renewed vigor to pursue our lives. We are given more than a fair chance to survive our allotted years. It is time we took stock of the progress we have made, with the sacrifices that went with it, to chart out a future that does justice to what we are bestowed with. Creation is full of love at every level and we should reciprocate to add with gusto what we are given. Love has no limits and when compassion is added to it the sky is the limit. We may not be able to add to the allotted time given to our species but we should leave a mark of gratitude and even include other species too, not that it might really be required as they mind their own business! The profound concept of time should make us pause and think about our destiny that is intertwined with the creative process that is sure to outlive us – it is indeed quite humbling to ponder! Time and tide wait for none in the end; being grateful for the moments given us should give added impetus for reflection!

Thanks Viewgreen, we are ever aware of the time we have here to do what is needed; otherwise life will just pass us by leaving us with missed opportunities. We should ponder often to look back and take stock of the situation - siva

thanks for taking the time to write this one siva.

I liked what you said about love. Love is untimed in its un-limitedness I think.

I know how much you give importance to "love" that embraces the whole creative process, thanks Spirited. To think we are stingy with one that comes naturally from a bottomless well of compassion! Love conquers all - why - even a kindly smile can give such a positive turn to our environment. In fact, the best blessings given to us are free, but in our selfishness we attach a price tag including for the time with our loved ones!

When we strip our personality off artificiality, ego, hubris, we are in heaven - siva

Yes Snerfu, it is fair and square that it is our choice finally as the Creator cannot micromanage. Never forget that He not only manages our universe, okay multiverse, but He has to keep up with others of His ilk too, and who knows He may have an uncompromising big boss, and ad nauseam too, phew!!! siva

Thank you Delicia for your valuable input. We are born here to share our moments and the Creator keeps us enthralled, so why bicker and even kill those who are just like us? Our contribution is almost nothing - we should do nothing if we cannot do any good is my motto. All children come with inner knowing and is aware what is good from bad; so let us not leave a legacy of hatred to poison the environment - siva

Siva, excellent writing as always. I welcome your insight. I must say I have learned so much from you. You have a very good heart. I'm one of the very few people in the world that doesn't believe in time. It's just the way I think. I know I usually stand alone on this. We are here and then we are gone. That's how I see it.

Thank you Nancy for your support as always and I cherish that. The memories we leave behind are our legacy and the lives we touch positively. Unless we are contemplative on basics of life, we are worse than other species in terms of awareness. I dare say the killings and cheating are indulged in by only 1% and the balance 99% are denied heaven right here by the former. I still become aware of those who have left me as if they are still alive - siva

Well said dear Siva - time is just a way of looking at life and things. Yesterday is past, today is present and tomorrow the future, so we can and should live only for the present. This is a process of renewal where the past must give way to the present and the present must give way to the future. So it is with life - a process or time-table of renewal.

Thank you dear Subra for your wise input as always. The present moment is the greatest present. When we live in hurt, we are living in the past; when in worry, we are living in the future. Why not live the present which is the greatest present given us? Past is past and my future may lie in my past too, but I have the present still with me to live, contribute and even enjoy!

As individuals we are given our time frame and collectively as a species. We can write our legacy, leave our footprint. The highest court of justice is within us, and we also know what to do. Yes, we are more blessed than we realize or care to admit - siva

Sadly, the few who are not well disposed towards the welfare of the majority decide our destiny. The majority have been forgiving in their attitude towards them. How else can we justify the rich becoming richer at the cost of the poor everywhere? Thanks Peter for your thoughts - siva
