The Rich get Richer and the Poor get Poorer

Our society favours the rich and limits the poor. I know many of you will not agree with me, but this is how I see the world.. The rich have for more advantages than the poor and thus far more opportunities to get ahead.

Hard to get on our feet

A person once asked me why was it so hard for the poor to get on their feet? Doesn't the government give them enough handouts? Here was my answer to that person.

Western society is geared to favour the rich. They have money so they can invest money and make more money from their investments.

Denied jobs because your family does not have the clout

The poor have no money, they cannot invest; they struggle to survive.

The rich have connections. They get into the best schools an in turn get the best jobs. Doctors get into private practices and into the best hospitals where their parents were doctors before them. It is much harder for a virtual unknown to pass the licensing exams and get the title doctor. The system is unfair. Status carries undeserved weight.

My own cousin with top grades was denied because his father was a train conductor and not a doctor. He was told that after the fact by several reliable sources in the medical field that wanted to remain anonymous - gee I wonder why!

The poor have no connections
. They do not get the best jobs and they certain do not go the best schools. There is a world of difference between private schools, ivy league schools, and ghetto or inner city schools.

Hand me down clothes

Employers take notice of which schools their applicants hail from and when you are talking about high paying jobs, they will take a Harvard graduate over the university of nowhere any day.

The rich can spend half their life studying; they have the means to get them through it.

The poor cannot spend all their lives in school or they will almost starve to death. They have go out and get some menial job just to put food on their table. This also means that because they have to make money just to make ends meet they cannot take the extra time to study longer, or the extra time to wait for that one great job.

They have dreams but those dreams are put aside to fit the here and now. They have to pay their rent and other obligations. The landlord will not wait for that great job. The landlord doesn't care if you have to wash dishes for a living - just pay the rent on time.

Once pigeonholed into a dead end job it is hard to escape from under. An employee just cannot take time off to look for another job or go on job interviews for fear he or she will lose this present job. Once in a job too long, the poor will lose the skills they gained from their education, or lose their self-esteem, feeling they cannot do better, or they may be faced with a double whammy and lose both.

The rich do favours for each other that reduce their expenses. For example, if you are a doctor and your class mate from way back is now a dentist, you take your children and family to him or her and get all your dental work free, in turn if that family needs medical assistance he or she takes them to you for free service as well.

People give things to rich people to get their business. If you're a movie star for example, big companies are always giving you their products for free such as; expensive makeup, perfume, clothes etc, hoping that you will use them in the future.

Nobody gives anything to the poor other than charity, but certainly not beautiful expense stuff. The poor are lucky to get hand me down clothes or a $10.00 pair of sneakers.

When a rich person's son starts to work in his early 20's, daddy buys him a business. Or he may make him the president or senior vice president with the salary that goes with it from the family business. Yes, sometimes the son is qualified; he has the education, but not necessarily the experience. Many times he lacks the proper skills and it is put into a dummy position or a position created simply for a tax write-off.

When a poor person goes out into the workforce, he is made senior vice president of flipping burgers at Macdonald's with a wonderful salary of $7.00 an hour.

I have focused on the rich and poor in this paper, but it does not mean I have forgotten about the middle class. The middle class is a dying status in North American countries. They are far from rich and very close to being poor. They are also taxed to death.

The rich have many tax shelters and the poor sometimes get a break on taxes but it is not ever enough. If a tax reduction is giving to a single person here in Canada, of two per cent let's say. That two percent is very relative. A single person making $60,000 would get a tax reduction of $1,200 but a single person making $10,000 a year and obviously needs a tax break badly would get $200. 00 based on that two percent index. In either case the middle class family or poor family do not enjoy the benefits afforded big business - those are the real tax cuts!

As you plainly can see every aspect of our society from schooling to jobs, to favours, and to taxes favour the rich over the poor.

Less than 200 years ago, Karl Marx (1818 - 1883) said there will always be the "haves and the have nots." Over 2,000 years ago Jesus said, "the poor will always be among us." Nothing much has changed.

The United States is a plutocracy - government by the wealthy. There is therefore no chance of a proper redistribution of wealth there.

However, in other countries that are run on more socially equitable lines, it is possible to achieve a measure of redistribution through higher taxation of the rich and the closing of tax loopholes.

The Governments, banks, institutions all favour the rich. They tax the poor more and more, and charge more, & higher fees for everything.

Meanwhile the wealthy shareholders get wealthier.

Some very good points here Carol, I agree with them all.

Thanks for sharing this great article ~ Carol ~ about differences between the rich and poor. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

I believe it can be accurately stated that having lots of money in and of itself doesn't necessarily indicate true wealth

Both the rich and poor have big problems at one time or another. Unfortunately ~ many people in the world with a great net worth are miserably unhappy. I love the inspiration found in Scripture.

In the Gospel of John ~ Jesus made this remarkable statement in John 16:33: "In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Richest Blessings to you.
