How did the mountains form and wheredid the gold come from. It came from heat and pressure and chemical reactions. Thats my best guess..

The Spectacular Sierra Nevada Mountains

The scientist say the Sierra Nevada were created millions of years ago by gigantic upheavals in the crust of the earth as it was cooling from the volcanic eruptions and other happenings while the earth was forming.

It is said that the continental plate broke and separated then slid one over the other which caused a massive upheaval, and that is what made the mountains. In the Sierra Mountains, you will find that they are composed of granite, the theory is the extreme pressure and heat when all of this happened along with the sudden cooling as it became exposed to the air, changed the volcanic matter into the granite you see today as you cross the Sierras on the Interstate .

The other thing that is nothing less than spectacular is Yosemite Valley and the gigantic granite boulders, and Half Dome itself is a wonder to behold. Then if you do get to Yosemite take the highway on over to the Nevada side of the mountain. On that side you can tell where everything pushed up, just stopped. It is really hard to explain, think about pushing dirt with your shovel, as you are pushing, just stop and examine your pile of dirt, which is very much how these mountains were formed.

This basically is how our mountains were formed some more than others. This then brings us to where did all the gold and minerals come from that California is so famous for, now I want you to know I am not a geologist, but I have done a lot of reading and I have lived there and been on the mountain and I can put the facts together.

The theory of How the Mountains were Formed

Here is what scientist and others feel happened, and it does really make sense. The gold was formed by the pressure and heat from the upheaval as the plates were over lapping, when everything quieted down there was lots of gold and other minerals near the surface, so in how many thousands of years and many rains the rivers are formed, the loose gold is washed off the mountains, and down the river. Now it’s easy to find by people using gold pans and sluices and the like.

That is just one theory about how the Sierra Nevada Mountains were formed. And the gold was there and a lot of people got rich and a lot went broke and got killed over the little yellow rocks.

The thing is the Sierras are still there, and will be until the end of time, when ever that might be. The lakes are there for recreation and fishing, and the mountain valleys are full of deer, wild turkeys, grouse, quail and a multitude of other wild life. This is a place that you could live off of the land, like many men have done.
