Reality: Sometimes, actions come upon us so suddenly as needed that we do not have time to think too rationally, let alone make a list. I am going to give advice for those situations in life as well as show how to have attention in any situation that works for it.

What to do about the giant reality in the room, let alone the elephant:

Sometimes, ultimate alertness is needed. Especially when we need to do great things real quickly and succinctly well. When I think of that kind of alertness, I think of unifying the many "I's" within us in the sense that George Gurdjieff and Peter Ouspensky mean in their works. Oh, I do not mean this in a mystical or mysterious way at all, give me a chance to explain my position here. If we have a disunity within ourselves, how can we deal with reality in an alert and realistic way that genuinely works in any congruent way, let alone make necessary decisions that work on a winning basis. What do you think Game Theory was really based on anyhow? It was really based on being able to create that ability for self-unity in life. But most people are so fragmented that they cannot deal with reality one let alone the many realities of life in a congruent way that has persistence within it, thus the propensity to genuinely fail, quit and all the other "normal" horrors. Also, no matter how learned, full of school degrees, and "great potential" you are, you cannot do a thing without persistence, even Calvin Coolidge talks about this in this self-unifying quote:

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

― Calvin Coolidge

Think about the reality of that quote for a moment. Oh, I could stop this article here and say that the point about self-unity was made without trying, but then I would be "shooting my own foot before I could shoot the target" and negating my own advice, so I will write about the giant reality in the room, and "the proverbial elephant that needs to be eaten piece" by piece while I write about the giant reality.
One of the finest instincts in life is persistence. Talent and "potential greatness" cannot take the place of that. To drift through life expecting talent and potential to take their places easily and without work is one of the biggest and most foolish mistakes that there is, even and especially with the person with a great heritage behind them or everything is given on a "silver platter with a silver spoon". In fact, those who "have it easy" have more to prove in a sense, because originality of greatness is always a factor in genuine and stand-alone success.
Get the hint? Success is the "gigantic elephant in the room", and just because success is given, does not mean it can automatically be consumed: "Raise the fork, cut with knife, and put out the effort to eat." Get my point here? The key is effort and persistence if I need to spell it out.

Think about this fact, and you can think about it better than a computer, you have an imagination:

Everything takes time, effort and persistence. The only "machine" that can quit is man, everything else does not have the creativity to say "impossible", right down to the bumblebee which technically should not be able to fly because it is "too heavy". In fact, I can say this: Impossible is what happens when the full reality of persistence and what can be conceived and believed can be achieved is not realized.
To win, we must not just begin, but we must finish. Finishing the job once started is one of the better qualities of a computer or "a lower being" that does not know the meaning of impossible. Think deeply about that and persist reasonably. Computers and animals may be "dumb" in many ways compared to man, but then so was the tortoise in comparison to the rabbit with its lazy habits, lazy assumptions, and so-called "more speed". The tortoise kept on until the tortoise won, no assumptions, just persistence. There is not any other key. I quote Calvin Coolidge again:

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
