The kitchen and dining room should be placed side by side or the dining area be provided in the kitchen. We shall here discuss various aspects of different rooms from the activity point of view and its usefulness.

A separate dining room is needed in a home

A separate dining room is needed in a home where a considerable degree of formality is observed. For a large family, it becomes a necessity.

The dining room or dining area should be situated and planned

If a separate room is not possible for dining purpose, dining area can be combined with either drawing room, kitchen or can even be adjusted in the veranda adjacent to the kitchen. The dining room or dining area should be situated and planned in such a way that the paraphernalia of the kitchen are not revealed from there.

A rectangular room is usually preferred

The size of the dining room depends on the number of family members dining together. A rectangular room is usually preferred. There should be sufficient space around the dining table for ease of service and free movement of persons. The room should have space for the keeping the refrigerator, storage of crockery and cutlery and other such equipments which are necessary for serving and dining.
