You must be fit in order to be a belayer, given the nature of the roles of a belayer one must be strong enough to be able to support a person in case of an emergency to avoid falling off during rock climbing.

The role of a belayer in rock climbing

Rock climbing is a fun filled thrilling adventure for any one who loves to do daring activities such as a rock climbing. Belaying which means to hold or catch is a term used in rock climbing.
A belayer is a person who holds or catches you when rock climbing. There are several tips that you need to have as a belayer in rock climbing.
1. You must be very alert when belaying another person when rock climbing. As a belayer you must be able to concentrate on what you are doing and also have the skills needed for a belayer.
2. You have to be able to have a firm grip on the rope when you are belaying another person when rock climbing.
3. You must be fit in order to be a belayer, given the nature of the roles of a belayer one must be strong enough to be able to support a person in case of an emergency to avoid falling off during rock climbing.
A belayer has various responsibilities which include the following;
1. As a belayer you are supposed to be in control of the rope when someone else is climbing the rope. This involve making sure that you control the rope and apply friction to facilitate speed.
2. You are supposed to offer support to a climber not to fall on the ground when rock climbing, the support that you give as a belayer will help to avoid any ground falls by climbers when lowering the rope as the climber is descending.
3. The be layer's main role in rock climbing is to make sure that the climber does not fall far when rock climbing.
4. Ideally the belayer supports the entire weight of the climber with little or no support at all. That is why a belayer must have the right skills for you to be a good belayer.
