Tips for Editing Photos

The great thing about digital photography is that you can edit photographs. Even if you are not the most effective with a camera, photos can be enhanced without one. Digital photography software packages have plenty of options for editing photos. Here are a few suggestions for editing photos.

There are a variety of digital photography software packages. The biggest editing software is probably the Adobe packages such as PhotoShop CS6, or alternatively PhotoShop Elements. However, there are plenty of freeware alternatives which are worth noting such as Google Picasa 3.9 and Photoscape which have a good range of editing options. For further details check out their websites.

One of the more basic digital editing options is that of the cropping tool. The cropping tool is an option which will remove parts of the photo, effectively shrinking it a little. This can be a very handy tool for removing parts of a landscape from a photograph. In Google Picasa you can select various dimensions for small or larger prints. With the Photoscape photo editor you can crop round photographs, which is not an option included with Picasa.

If you have taken a photo indoors, or possibly outdoors, the photo may be a little dark. However, with image editing software you can lighten up the photo with the fill light option. The fill light option adjusts the ambient light in the photograph, which is always handy when your photograph is too dark.

Another great image editing option is that of graduated tint. This option is great for crisp blue skylines. It adds a graduated filter to them with feather and shade options that will shade half of the photograph.

There are a few potential editing options for low contrast photographs that are lacking in color. The aforementioned fill light may be one, but Picasa 3.9 also has a boost option. Select the boost option to bring out colors and enhance contrast.

Paint has suitable options for resizing photographs, so that you can then add them to your Helium articles. Select image and then resize from within the Paint application. Here you can resize the horizontal and vertical sides of the photograph by adjusting the percentage figures. When adjusting the size of the photo, keep the relative dimensions the same. As such, in Paint you should input exactly the same figures for both the vertical and horizontal when resizing.

These suggestions could revitalize your digital photos. Image editing software can transform your digital photos, so never forget to have a few digital software packages at hand for further photo refinements and adjustments.
