To rent or buy.

To rent? To buy? Hmm what are the pros & cons of renting v. buying a house. I rent. I like the idea of renting a house, I take care of the property the owner pays the taxes.

I rent

For almost my entire life I have lived in what can be best described as "rental" housing. Even the base quarters for which we paid no actual rent, were still 'borrowed'. My parents finally bought a house when my dad retired, but by then I had moved out & was living my own rental property life.

For a time I considered buying but felt the pros & cons of ownership were too unbalanced. So I raised my kids in 'rental property. My daughter had been lucky enough to grow up with a yard to play in,but had never had a pool. When her little brother came along we lived in an apartment complex complete with pool & playground!
Recently my partner & I found a lovely little 3 bedroom house here in D. where we live. My son now has the chance to have a yard to play in. His friends from schooll & boy scouting live just a couple houses down.

Why continue to rent you might ask? Well as a tenant I don't have to pay the property taxes & if a major appliance goes on the blink I call the landlord. If I were the owner those would be expenses out my own pocket. I did need to buy some things that as an aprtment dweller I never owned like a mower, a hose & a sprinkler.

If you are a home owner congratulations on the biggest expense you'll ever have. If you ever are forced by circumstances to rent out your home, let me know I know a very nice clean family that will take care of it for you.

I have done both in my life time. I find pros and cons with doing both. Nice take on it and if we ever decide to rent out our home, I will be giving you a call. Thank you for sharing.:)
