Traffic accidents are accidents .Nobody can assure that traffic accidents will not happen. Precautions should be taken on the part of the vehicle owners, the drivers and the helpers in this regard. The garage owners and the Motor Vehicles Inspectors have a crucial role in declaring the vehicles fit for road worthy.

Traffic accidents are the major incidents generally happened either on the National Highways or on the state Highways or any roads. Those are generally happened when there is system failure of the large vehicle or the driver. The driver may develop a tendency to overtake the speedy vehicle in order to reach the destination in time. The road accidents may be head - on- collision between two speedy vehicles or may be overturned on the Highway, causing blockade on the road, leaving no space for other vehicles to steer through. During rainy season the rate of accidents is high. During rainy season the large vehicles may skid on the flank of the roads while this is running at great speed.Road accidents may not happen if the drivers remain cautious on the steering. It is really dangerous if there is an accident of head - on- collision between fully loaded long distance passenger bus and fully loaded large trucks/ lorries. .
Four years back I faced a serious accident at Dubrajpur in the Ditrict of Birbhum while I was returning in my Scorpio government vehicle. from Panagarh,Burdwan to Malda- my district head quarter at noon.My driver was driving the vehicle at a great speed. The Scorpio collided the truck from behind, smashing the front portion of the vehicle and ejecting three injured passengers-my driver, security and myself out of the said vehicle. I lost my senses and was flat on the road. My left hand and face was totally disfigured. I was taken to, initially Primary Health center ,then to Primary Health Center by the local youths. From Primary Health Center I was shifted to District Hospital by Ambulance. From there to Mission Hospital ,Durgapur for thorough medical treatment.

Emergency preparedness

As soon as the road accidents are happened either on the National Highway or on the state highway, immediate necessary steps are required to be taken by the National Highway police patrol to inform the concerned authorities like local police station, the media, the hospital authorities, the owners of the vehicles, and the insurance authorities and the PWD(road)authorities. The highway cranes are pressed into service to lift the vehicle from the ditch,if fallen into the ditch, or the canal or the river. The first and foremost duty is to make immediate arrangement for transferring all the injured persons from the accident site to the nearest medical center or the hospital for proper medical treatment. In most of the cases.those who have minor injuries are released after first-aid In road accidents communication gap is the serious handicap to save the injured lives. The second most important duty is to clear the roads so that all the normal traffic movement may be resumed without any bottleneck..If the traffic accidents take place in urban areas. the accident site is instantly surrounded by a large no of people, causing inconveniences to rescue operation. Sometimes it turns into a law and order problem. Then the police officials take the initiative to disperse the enraged mob and to control the situation peaceful for. smooth operation..

Traffic accidents or road accidents may be controlled, if the drivers and helpers are given proper counseling and training. The vehicles should be on road when the certificate of fitness are issued by the Motor vehicle inspectors.Proper servicing of the vehicles should be done before they are on road. Old tyres should be replaced by new ones. Pollution certificates are must for the running vehicles. The loading capacity of the vehicles should be rigidly enforced as per norms.Last of all the drivers and the helpers should observe traffic rules strictly to minimise the accidents.
