Twin Lambs Look Like Miniature Cattle

Last week one of our ewes had triplets, only days later another ewe had twins. The new twins look like baby cows.

Some Background on Our Sheep

Normally we do not want to have lambs born in the fall. However this spring the guy who was suppose to come get the ram changed his mind so before we could sell the ram he must have bred a few of the ewes because just last month my wife said to me "Hey, I think Diamond, Blackie, and maybe Girlie, are pregnant because they all seem to be getting udders.". Diamond looked the biggest.

Indeed it turned out to be Girlie, the ewe that looked the least pregnant, that had her lambs first, three of them!

Blackie was Next

Blackie was next. Blackie sheep herself had an interesting start in life, she was born on a cold January day and her mother just wandered off leaving her and her sister wet and freezing. They both lived and were bottle baby lambs, my wife decided to keep the black one, naming her Blackie.

Anyhow on October 12 my wife and I were at work but my step daughter was home. Part way through the day she phoned to say that Blackie had twins that looked like calves (baby cows).

About the Twin Lambs

When my wife and I got home she asked me to take their pictures so she could blog about them on her sheep blog.

The one that is mostly black is a male, a ram lamb. He has tight curls.

The one that is mostly white is a female, a ewe lamb. She has wavy hair.

Their father was a Dorper Katahdin cross, a hair sheep.

These twins are younger than the triplets but are much larger. They would have been so cramped inside the ewe that the ram lamb has feet that curl under a bit when he stands. We had a couple of huge lambs last year that had the same thing but they straightened out after a few days. We do help massage the joints two times a day to help straighten them out.

Two Down, One to Go

Diamond is huge, she can hardly walk. We were actually thinking she would have her lambs last night, but nothing... Even now we are checking on her throughout the day and still no lambs. She has had triplets many times in the past so that would not be a surprise again.

Wow!! I am so very jealous of you living "my dream life!" The farm life is all I ever wanted but something that I will never have! Thank you for sharing this with us! At least you will be able to live off the land when the New World Order takes over! Thanks again for giving us a glimpse into the way life is supposed to be! You are so very blessed!!
