To practice Uddeśa Meditation is very simple and you don’t need to be an expert at meditation to gain the full benefit of it. This step by step guide is based on the way in which the original and authentic meditation was practiced.

To practice Uddeśa Meditation is very simple and you don’t need to be an expert at meditation to gain the full benefit of it. This step by step guide is based on the way in which the original and authentic meditation was practiced. The basic principal of meditation is firstly to clear your mind of all thoughts and feelings and this also applies to Uddeśa Meditation. But where Uddeśa Meditation differs from most other meditation techniques, is that most meditation techniques only make you reach a state of experiencing an absolute tranquil and peaceful mind, where Uddeśa Meditation will guide you to discover your authentic self and your purpose in life.

Step 1
The first step is universal to all meditation, clearing your mind of all thoughts and distractions. There are many different ways to achieve this, but the most effective and practiced technique is to concentrate on your breathing. Find a quiet place where you won’t get disturbed and close your eyes and start to concentrate on your breathing. Breath in slowly through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Concentrate on the rise and fall movement of your body with each breath you take.

Don’t think about the past or tomorrow. Just be present at this point where you are now and with each breath take it slower and deeper. Other thoughts will come, but just acknowledge them and return to concentrating on your breathing. Feel how each cell in your body is regenerated with each breath you take. Every time your mind starts wondering off, bring it back to the slow rise and fall of your breathing.

At first it won’t be easy to keep your mind from thinking of other things, but with practice over time it becomes easier and easier until you reach the stage where you will be able to clear your mind of all thoughts and just be in the moment of concentrating on your breathing. For experienced meditators this first step will come naturally, but if you only starting out now, it will take some practice. But don’t get discouraged if you find it difficult to clear your mind, with repetitive practice you will master this first step.

When you reach the stage of being able to clear your mind of all thoughts and be in a state of complete peace, you’re ready to move on to step 2.

Step 2
This step is the essence of Uddeśa Meditation and you have to be patient with it. In this step you will be guided on how guide your mind to fulfilling your purpose in life and knowing what is really important to you and what will fill your life with happiness. Receiving these answers won’t happen quickly. But with diligent practice you will receive the answers you’re looking for, just don’t get discouraged if you don’t receive it at first.

When you’ve reached the stage as described in step 1, you’ll be able to delve deep into your subconscious mind and discover things about yourself that’s been buried from you for your whole life. You’ll discover your true self and what the reason for your existence is, why you were born and what you are supposed to do with your life.

Contemplate on one single thought – what will really fill your life with happiness or something you did that filled your heart and soul with love and compassion. Imagine a world without money, so discard any thoughts about money or materialistic things. Remove your mind from the conditioning of society, imagine a life of freedom where you can live the life you were meant to live.

Meditation is not an exact science, for some the answer will come quickly, for others it will take longer. Just keep on meditating of a life filled with love, peace, compassion and joy. You will eventually find the one thing that you know in your heart is what you should do in your live, what your goal or purpose is.

And that’s it. A very simple meditation technique, the same way as it was practiced thousands of years ago without any religious or modern influences, just the core of meditation and discovering your purpose and the reason for your existence.
