Acharya Rajneesh deserves his place as one of the great philosophers who came from India. hE PREACHED ABOUT CONQUERING THE INNER SELF AND GETTING CLOSER TO MOKSHA OR SALVATION. . However he cchose to einterpret the Hindu theory of Tantra and many did not understand him, but millions consider him a messiah.

Introduction

India is a country blessed by god. I make this statement after having been a globe trotter and iteracting with the people of diverse regions and following different religions. India is home to 4 great religions, that encompass almost half of humanity. India is the home of Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism.. These religions are the dominant force in the sub-continent, China, Japan and South East Asia.
Hinduism is one of the great religions and it has many sects. Some are bizarre and unconventional. Acharya Rajneesh was one of the seers who also started a a philosophy which relied heavily on Hindu Tantra concepts. He gave it a new look and showed to the world a path to mental peace through tantra , sex and meditatition.

Acharya Rajneesh

Acharya Rajneesh was born in Madhya Pradesh and got his degree in philoophy. He was lectuer in a college in Jubblepore , before the call of his inner self led him to resign his job and move to Bombay( Now Mumbai) . There he began to preach his new concepts and found a following that over the years spread all over the world..
An incident recounted in his biography " The Luminous Rebel" is worth relating here. Rajneesh while attending a class of philosophy on Aristotle, the father of logic asked his professor as to how many wives Aristotle had ?
This irritated the professor, who asked him what he meant . Rajneesh replied that Aristotle had stated that women had fewer teeth then men. This was a articulation of a concept at that time that Women had everything less than men.
Rajneesh further added that Aristotle the father of modern logic could at least have counted the number of teeth as he had 2 wives.

Philosophy of Rajneesh

Rajneesh shifted to Pune from Mumbai and began to preach his ideas and philosophy . He set up his Ashram there and soon thousands began to to visit Rajneesh and try and understand him. He had tremendous appeal for western men and women who flocked to his ashram.
Rajneesh stated that all humans must shed their inhibtions and the so called code of morality. He wished to integrate desire with meditation. He believed that Tantra sex had a great part to play in this. He thus carried out therapy sessions where the men and women meditated as they wished, some totally nude as they shed their inhibtions.. He advocated group meditation with men and women together. In the advanced stage all discipiles meditated in the nude and tried to get over the guilt comples in relationships. Many western doctors have certified to the success of meditation techniques of Rajneesh in allievating stress from human life.

Last Word

Rajneesh is misunderstood by many as a man who advocated free sex. I think this is not the correct interpretation of his philosophy. He advocated sex where orgasm is not the goal. He advocated shedding inhibitions and taboos. He advocated a life where sex is just a milestone , but a important path to salvation and bliss. This is what is stated in Hindu and Buddhist Tantra.
Rajneesh refined these concepts. He left for his heavenly abode in 1987 and millions still follow him in Ashrams around the world.

A very interesting post. I'm inclined to agree with you I don't think he advocated free sex in the manner that many people think of it. People need to get over their inhibitions and guilt complexes. All of our real enemies are within ourselves. Blessings.
