The devotion of motherland

Sangolli Rayanna is a great warrior who belonged to the Kingdom of Kittur. He rendered his services to Kittur in the army and as a watchman of village Sangolli in Karnataka (South India). He took part in the Kittur rebellion in 1824 led Rani (Queen) Chennamma. He was imprisoned and later released. As a loyal servant of Kittur Sangolli Rayanna supported the claims of the adopted heir Shivalingappa. He sought the help of Venkatappa Nayaka of Surajpur to fight against the English, he raised a band of warriors and waged guerilla warfare against the English and even defeated them sometimes.

His troops burnt government offices at Bidi and Sampgaon and looted the treasury. He led surprise attacks against the English killed some Englishers. He was thus a menace to he English. However the English finally captured him when some of his associates betrayed him. Sangoli Rayanna was tried, held quilty and hanged to death at Nandgad in 1830. The brave man of Village Sangolli Rayanna was hanged On Banyan tree to death by the British.

The torch of rebellion lit by Rani (Queen) Chennamma in 1824 was carried on by Sangolli Rayanna for nearly 6 years for the cause of Kittur till his death in 1830.
