The continuation easy step-by-step water color painting for beginners, portrait done for Boxing Superstar Manny Pacquaio.

"When I'm painting, I'm not aware of what I'm doing. It's only after a get acquainted period that I see what I've been about. I've no fears about making changes for the painting has a life of its own”
Jackson Pollock

"..recede in the distance"

I mention again tonal value on the first part of this article and related post on painting (Oil).Color has three aspects: hue, intensity, and value. Value is the lightness or darkness of any color. Remember that "Tonal values gradually become lighter as objects recede in the distance." You will now notice on my reference painting how I used the dark shade of brown, to lighten peach to demonstrate and set the tonal value.

Middle rounds

-Now that the overall color plan is completed in your canvass, the next layers of paint, which might include blending or dabbing can be started. This is water color technique is different generally as compared to acrylic or oil, wet over dry is the best approach. Ask yourself, are the darkest and lightest points established? Is the color rich enough? Add layers of color to the darker areas until you are satisfied. For a pronounced texture in your wash let it dry at an angle. The pigment will settle out in the texture of the paper. Add details when the wash is already dry, else a different result will be achieved.ixed with strong color, lay on the paper with varying pressure as you dragged strokes to create the darker tone and texture on the image details

Last Few Rounds

-As I finished the psychedelic drama of color on the background I added a light wash of emerald green as an effect in the large background imposing the athletic physique followed by a run of lighter medium blue while still wet to impose accents.

Split Decision

At this point I considered the facial details and hair. Using the under painting as a base I scrubbed in the darker color with a mixture of either gray darker brown on muscle definition. I used smallest brush on the fist bandage to draw-line the wrap details.

Remember a composition is finished when you are satisfied with it.So asked yourself. Does it express your impression of the subject? Do also note that protrait is the hardest among the painting becasue it need accurate resemblace of the subject. You can try other neutral subject like "still life" of various objects and subjects. If indeed you find critics, simply create new one, dont dwell on infinite retouching else you will ruin your obra. Move on and marvel your own creation.

Enjoy you nut cracking in water painting!
