An easy step by step water color painting for beginners, portrait done for Boxing Superstar Manny Pacquaio.

Water Color The Medium:

"Painting from nature is not copying the object; it is realizing one's sensations."
-Paul Cezanne

Inspiration

Hello wikinut readers, . Let me share how to create art in the medium of painting. I am not asking you to try paint like me, I want to help you to find YOUR WAY to paint so consider the following a crash course like we did "Oil Painting 101" - for water color.

Everything starts in an inspiration. Here my subject is my compatriot boxing future Hall of Fame(r) Manny Pacquiao. You can also look for something around you, be it your pet, an object around you etc. Now and then a particular subject will suggest a powerful mood because comfort is necessary for you to begin with. On the right image is the end product and how I created it.

Sketching

SKETCHING
-On your water color paper, begin by doing some rough SKETCH or light drawing as pattern of your work in the canvas to direct you on the sizes and perspective be it a portrait, landscape, still life etc. A portrait gives a real challenge than any subject since you need a keen accurate likeness to avoid injustice from any model and real people. Therefore basic drawing skills is needed.

Tips: Black-and-white photos (you can try some apps if your reference is in color)show tones very clearly and free you from the desire to replicate the colors in a scene for easier rough sketching and tonal value later.

Color Bonding

COLOR BONDING (relationship)
-When the image sketch is complete, add the first wash of color. For this one, start with brown, red, and burnt umber and mix the other colors from them. Use appropriate round brush to apply the first layer of color to each object. When applying color, begin with the lightest value and move to the darkest. To achieve an efficient good composition and unity in your painting is to initially start the large areas into a background color manipulate later.

Tonal value is needed to decide which one is the area you be needing to apply the shading of this image.

It's never too late to start a new thing in life... some started only after their retirement years.
