Who is Qualified to Write an eBook?

There are millions of eBooks available on the internet. How do you decide which one is worth spending money on and what makes the authors of those books qualified to instruct or aid you?

Why Would You Need an eBook?

There are eBooks available on nearly every topic under the sun. Because of the convenience of digital delivery many people prefer to look up information on the internet which leads them to eBooks on the topic they are looking for. A simple purchase and download and they have more extensive information than they could find for free online.

Most eBooks Don't Deliver

You expect an eBook to answer your questions or teach you something. At least that is the expectation. Many times eBooks provide vague and irrelevant information. For example when I began toying with the idea of writing an eBook for beginning freelance writers I obtained several different free and purchased eBooks on the subject of writing eBooks.

Guess what I learned? Not a thing.

Nothing about layout, or formatting. Nothing about how to design the cover or put the text document into the eBook format. So I had an idea, but no clue how to execute it other than to write what I wanted people to know. I also knew that I did not want to write one of those vague eBooks. I wanted my readers to benefit from reading what I published. I wanted them to feel that their hard earned money was well spent, and I wanted them to be able to earn back more than they spent on the book by following the instructions within.

What Qualifies Me?

I spent a little time considering the information that I would include in my eBook. I knew that I would create the best book if I simply relied upon my experience, the things I have learned since becoming a freelance writer and put those items into an easy to follow set of directions to get online freelance writers off to a successful start. No one who reads my book will doubt that I have written it with the best of intentions to completely convey the steps necessary to become a successful freelance writer.

So when people ask me what qualifies me to attempt to instruct other people in how to begin their career, I can honestly answer " Because I have done it." I can't think of anyone who would purchase an instructional book if they knew that the author had never actually done what was being written about.

I have no experience as an eBook author, but I have plenty as an online freelance writer. For nearly 2 years I have been building my brand, searching out opportunities and finding success as an online freelance writer. As I accomplished different levels of success I have tried to give something back to other writers by creating the Freelance Writer Online site and helping new freelancers get started.

This first book has been a learning experience for me, and I can assure you if I ever decide to write an eBook about how to write an eBook it will be much more detailed and specific than some of the ones I wasted my money on to help me compile my book.

How Do You Know if an eBook is Vague or Helpful

Sadly until you purchase and download a book you have no way of knowing whether the book will be helpful to you or not. Most authors don't write a page like this to tell people that they will find step by step instructions in an eBook. That is because marketing descriptions are designed to make every eBook seem like the answer to your every question. This is much like any advertising method. The personal approach and being honest has been replaced by carefully worded blurbs and a dollar sign.

So I will tell you now, my ebook is my first attempt at writing a book. I'd never done it before. I taught myself the layout, I used online tutorials to format and design the book as well as my handy dandy Microsoft Word 07. The book is available on my website If you're interested in checking out an honestly helpful eBook and are looking to start a freelance career then it will be what you are looking for.

To put it simply loverme, open a word document, choose a font and size then begin putting your poems into the document. Get everything in first, then worry about title page, table of contents, copyrights and disclaimers, layout, entering, page numbering and so on. The most important part is the information, the rest is mainly for appearance.

Thanks Olivia. I am far from being an expert on putting together an eBook, but I am very experienced at what I wrote about and I did it, I did my best and I hope that anyone who buys it will find the information helpful.

As someone who has been following Suz for a long time, let me tell you this. She knows what she's doing. She researches her information and is willing to share. I follow her website, her numerous blogs and her articles on content sites. I've learned a lot from her.
Now, she's published a book and I feel guilty asking for free advice. :-(

LOL, Thanks Patrice! You know I will help you in any way I can...at least until I write a book that is at your level, then you'll have to buy the book. haha
