WordPress supports the creation and management of blog articles.

Why WordPress is simply the best content management system

The five minute installation

You do not need to know any code to install Wordpress in record time. You can either download it from Wordpress.org or activate it in your hosting dashboard in super quick and easy steps (this applies to many web hosting service providers such as GoDaddy).

Basic functions

WordPress supports the creation and management of blog articles. Any product can be classified into different categories. In addition, article tags and other user-defined metadata can be assigned (using Custom Fields).

The blog posts are offered in addition to the normal presentation as a web page. Readers also have news feeds in the protocols RSS 2.0, RSS 0.93 and Atom 0.3.

With WordPress, you can also create static pages outside of the blog hierarchy. Since version 2.6 , the version control of articles and pages is also supported.

WordPress has a simple content management system with six user roles (Super Admin, Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor, Follower), a media gallery with built-in uploader and an integrated full-text search. TinyMCE is also enabled by default as a text editor.

With the help of WordPress plug-ins various functions can be added. All these extensions can be edited using the built-in editor.

Overall, there is more than 5000 different free plug-ins available in the plug-in repository. There are, for example, plug- ins, which allow the use of other methods such as LDAP login , OpenID or Shibboleth, connect your own blog with Twitter or expand the WordPress statistics function.

Automattic also provides plug-ins, providing a connection with the other in-house projects such as the bbPress Forum software or services like the Akismet anti - spam service.

Hierarchy within a WordPress theme

Using the theme design and technology program core of WordPress, it makes it easy to develop custom designs, without being familiar with the programming of the software itself.

A normal WordPress theme is a set of building blocks (PHP functions) and HTML code. Each theme follows a fundamentally same structure. Therefore, there are some developers of special themes that already include all the basic building blocks and thereby facilitate the development of their own themes.

WordPress μ

The project WordPress μ ( μ = mu, used here as an abbreviation for Multi-User ) offers the opportunity to host multitenant blogs and thus set up a weblog service. WordPress μ - versions are based respectively on the current version of WordPress and appear in a timely manner. The project was also coordinated by Automattic.

Since WordPress 3.0, μ under the name multi-site is an integral part of the blogging software and will not run as a separate project.

BuddyPress is a plug -in for WordPress (originally only for WordPress μ), which transforms the blog system in a small social network or forum. The current version is 1.8.1 , 5 August 2013 .
