On 14th February we celebrate Valentine’s Day, it’s a special day for lovers, but I am wishing love and peace to everyone. Read on to find out more.

Wishing Everyone a Happy Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is a day when lovers celebrate with joy, a day where they remind each other just how much they care. There are so many ways to celebrate, ornate cards, flowers, gifts, and romantic meals out, or if you can’t afford any of this, what could be nicer than a Marks and Spencer’s meal for two and a bottle of wine at home? That is of course if you have a microwave, and a cosy secluded room to enjoy it in without the interruptions of every day life.

Most men feel a little embarrassed about choosing a card for their dearly beloved, it’s not that they don’t care, they just don’t want the whole world to see them, but what they don’t realise is, everyone else will be doing it too, so who cares. Women, on the other hand, spend ages trying to find the right card, that says the right things, even conferring with a friend, if they go shopping in pairs.

It's a time when everything costs more.

There is no doubt about it, that shops, especially flower shops, and restaurants use any anniversary to their advantage by putting up their prices to entrap the public to spend more on that special day. For some people, who may not have a job, or are just struggling financially, those prices may be out of their reach.

But throwing money about doesn’t prove you love someone. Being there for them giving them love, loyalty and support, not just on Valentines Day , but always, speaks louder than any fancy meal or big bouquet of flowers. I personally would rather have a modest card with nice words in it, a gift is not necessary, you can be rich with love even if your pockets are empty.

But what about the people who don’t want to celebrate Valentine’s Day? They may have recently broken up with someone they really care about. Or even worse, be bereaved. They may be spending that day alone at home with little else but memories. They may feel rejected because the love of their life is with someone else, so as far as they are concerned, the quicker that February 14th has passed, the better.

Not everyone feels like Celebrating

Then there are people who nurse a secret passion for someone who is not aware of it. They might not have the courage to ask them out yet, but they can enter into the fun of sending them an anonymous card. Well they might feel it’s fun, but unless that person responds to it, and realises who they are, and then says they feel the same, they will feel lonely too.

I would like to wish everyone a very happy Valentine’s day, especially those who are single right now. If more people showed love towards each other, wars would stop, then people wouldn’t be dying needlessly. I don’t suppose Hitler or Bin Laden, to name a couple, ever bought a Valentine Card!

My wife is a tough one to please on Valentine's Day, she does not like chocolate and hates getting gifts, flowers (unless alive) and cards. She says she wants nothing, and sometimes I just give a donation to an animal shelter and that makes her happy!

Anyhow, thanks for the Valentines wishes. And lots back to you.

Thanks Carol for a lovely post. Though may not sound romantic, I just live the moments as all days are equally worth celebrating. Love, care and share should be alive all round the year. However, I do know that showing love and feelings on Valentine's day carries a lot of meaning. Happy Valentine for all here, enjoy the day - siva

Rather than spend money, we simply enjoy spending time together. best this is all year round, not just for one day. But I know younger people love the excuse to splash out on each other.

Valentine's day signifies love and should be promoted for spreading brotherhood throughout the world. However, it has become more of a favorable day for marketeers and shopkeepers to sell their wares, and do big business.

Now we're in 2014, but your article is as valid as it was last year. I think it will remain evergreen. Well done.
